Paradox

One of my favourite TV shows is Iisa pa Lamang. In case you haven't seen it, it's about this poor girl who turns mega-rich when her wealthy husband dies. The main character, Catherine, portrays the characteristics of a poor-girl-who-becomes-rich in a typical gripping (exciting!) primetime show: she becomes cunning, vengeful, and thinks that she can have everything (including justice) she wants with her money.

The point is... you know how almost everyone wants to win the lottery? We think that having a lot of money would make us happy and solve most of our problems (I guess it's true when it comes to credit card loans, student loans, mortgage, etc). I've seen a lot of movies and TV shows that portray rich people being: a) Greedy - The more money they have, the more they crave for more; and b) Lonely - They have everything they want, but the things that will make them happy are the ones that money cannot buy. I guess Catherine is a little bit of (a), and more on (b), which, I think, is the worse between the two. (b) portrays one of the true paradoxes in life: the more material wants they have, the less they feel contented; the more they gain, the more they lose.

I admit I am guilty of wanting more than I need. For instance, I sometimes feel the want to buy a new cellphone when I already have one. I don't know why I feel the need, the want, to buy something I don't even need. I keep telling myself that it is just human nature to want certain things (even the unnecessary ones), but is it really just human nature? It may also have something to do with pride: maybe I want people to be jealous of what I have, or maybe I feel the need to be different, unique. I dream of having a bigger house, but I know that compared to other people who don't even have a decent warm house, I live in a mansion!

When I find myself complaining about how hard school is (even to the point of wanting to quit), I find myself thinking of the unpriviledged ones who'd give up a lot just to be able to go to school.

I feel selfish for wanting more than what is necessary... because I feel that, somehow, what I have isn't enough. I feel bad for being selfish.

And then it hit me. Hard.

I was listening to "Everything's Alright", a song from Jesus Christ Superstar.

Judas:
"Woman [Mary Magdalene] your fine ointment, brand new and expensive
Should have been saved for the poor.
Why has it been wasted? We could have raised maybe
Three hundred silver pieces or more.
People who are hungry, people who are starving
They matter more than your [Jesus] feet and hair!"

Jesus:

"Surely you're not saying we have the resources
To save the poor from their lot?
There will be poor always, pathetically struggling.
Look at the good things you've got."

Look at the good things you've got...

Shocked, I am
July 31, 2008

Emmett, Rosalie, Esme, Edward, Carlisle, Alice, Jasper

*Complaining mode* Why, oh why, does Jasper Hale look like that? I am quite not pleased. Jasper is one of my most favourite characters in the Twilight series. Oh well, but Jasper IS Jasper. We all have our differences, especially in imagination, right? I can't wait to see the movie. I am also looking forward to Valkyrie starring Tom Cruise (showing February 2009) because I am such a history nerd (that movie about World War II). I hope it's going to be good.

Anyway, here's a closer (ugliershotofJasper) look:

Oh, dear, dear Jasper. :(

SUMMERLOVIN'!

Exams are over! Wee :) Bah, I am actually bored. I'm watching My Girl (Korean version).

Anyway...

Minsan para kaming sina Heidi Montag at Spencer Pratt. Ugh, ew, kaso pa-epal lang yung mga yun. Parang 'fo-show' lang. So iba na lang. Para kaming Papa Burger and Mama Burger... kaso masyadong cheesy yan. Kaya Brangelina na lang :) Favourite ko silaa

Pano ba yan, Francis mode ulit ako. :)
